While DG was being examined the rest waited outside. Cain ,the one who usually was the one who held everyone together ,was crumbling. Jeb and Azkadellia took charge of consoling and gathering information. The Queen was overcome with grief and clung to Ahamo. After what felt like an eternity the doctors came out. Cain looked at their solemn faces. They were not bringing good news.

The doctors pulled the Queen, Ahamo, and Azkadellia were pulled aside and the doctor told them of DG's condition. The Queen collapsed in Ahamo's arms while Azkadellia tried to hold back tears. Az who rarely looked Cain in the eyes ,due to her feeling guilty about the witch destroying his life, looked at him like a lost,broken girl.

Overcome with worry and a need to protect DG he ran past everyone and raced into her bedroom. Her head was heavily bandaged and her eyes were covered. Her face was swollen. Tears mixed with blood streamed down her face. " Princess ?" he whimpered.

" Cain? Is that you?" DG's arms reached out for him.

He zoomed to her side and their hands intertwined. " Hey there ,Princess." He choked on his tears. He gently wiped away the blood stained tears. " Your bleeding.Try not to cry."

" I destroyed your hat. I'm sorry."

" I'll buy another one. My main concern is you."

" They tell me I'm blind. Probably permanent. Damage...major damage. I'm scared." DG cried.

Cain pulled her into a hug. " It's scary but I'm here and your family and friends are here."

" I don't remember how it happened. I remember taking your hat but the rest is a blank."

" Trauma from the fall. You may remember eventually. What's important is your alive."

" I may never see your face again or anyone elses." She sounded so small.

" Hold on to the memories. Let them be your eyes."

" What if I start forgetting?"

" We'll remind you."

" Cain ,don't let me go. "

" Never. Your stuck with me kid."

" Is that wanting to be my bodyguard still on the table ?"

" Always." Cain smiled weakly.

" Your hired."

" May I ask why now ,besides..."

" I trust you more than anyone else. My life is in your hands. What's left of it."

" Don't say that. This is a detour. Your too darn stubborn to let it bring you down."

" It looks like I'm a full time job now ,are you sure?"

" You were always a full time job. "

" Well now it's tripled."

" I'm here. If you are worried about me not spending enough time with Jeb ,don't. He has a family of his own ,ya know. I can help you and bond with my boy."

He noticed DG started to relax. " Okay , Cain. That makes me feel better." Her hands moved towards where she thought his face was but she kept missing. " Where's your face?" His hands guided hers to his face. She studied him. " Your frowning and worried. Please don't. " She touched his browline. " Quit stressing! Your making me stress. "

He laughed. " Crazy princess."

DG smiled weakly. " Yep. Why is your voice so calming? The others were making my head hurt. Will you guard me from the loud ,annoying people?"

" I shall try. " He slightly grinned. He knew she was trying to make him feel better. " Rest now, Princess. I'm sorry I barged in. I....was worried."

DG yawned. " I'm glad you did. Now stop worrying ,your making me feel bad.'' She eased her way down to her pillows and fell asleep. Cain gently touched her cheek and left the room. He found the nearest guestroom and broke down in tears.

Later that night Cain crept back into DG's room. He found himself unable to stay away from her.He whispered softly as he sat in the chair across from her. " I feel like I failed you."
After a deep sigh he finally was able to sleep.

DG awoke hearing a noise. A baby's cry. She sensed she was not alone. A smell of gun powder , soap , and cologne filled her senses. She smiled. Cain. The noise still rang in her ears.
How could he not hear it? She cautiously got out of the bed and little by little followed the noise. She let her hands guide her as she took baby steps into her new dark world. She worked
her way to the room where the baby was crying. Addie. It was Addie. DG smiled. Jeb and his wife were her best friends besides Azkadellia. Of course they would stay here to help her.
She worked her way to the crib and touched Addie. " Hey there. Why so fussy? " She turned and moved around till her foot hit a rocking chair. She dragged it near the crib. She went back
to Addie and lifted her up and rocked her in the chair.

Cain woke up and was instantly worried when he noticed DG was missing. He started looking for her. Bathroom? No. Az's room? No. Though he did get help when Az awoke when he
entered her room. Az sat down on the floor and meditated. She smiled. " She's fine. Deege found a way to Addie. She's rocking her."

Cain sighed in relief and headed to them. When he got to the doorway he couldn't help but smile. Addie was sucking on DG's pinky while DG sang a lullaby. He rubbed the sweat off his
brow that he didn't know was there until it started dripping down to his eyes. ' She's so good with her. She's gonna make a great mother one day to our kids.' His jaw dropped at what he
had just thought. ' What?! Huh! I did not just think that. The Kiddo and I ?! No I don't....She don't....Even if there was ...not saying there is stupid brain but if there was ,she's so...
and I'm so...It wouldn't work..I'm not in love with her. I'm not. Her smile doesn't effect me. That nice ,warm ,inviting smile. Those piercing blue eyes don't hypnotize me. Her dewy skin so
...so soft and her breasts so...Okay mind out of gutter ,Tin Man. You haven't made love in nearly ten annuals and it's finally getting to ya. Plus she just survived a traumatic experiance.
Get a grip ,cowboy!'

DG smiled. " I think we're being watched. Wyatt Cain , I do believe you are snooping."

Cain's heart did flipflops at the sound of her saying his first name. He paled. ' Oh shit ,I do have a thing for my best friend. When did she steal my heart ?' he thought. A little voice chirped
. ' Right after she thawed your cold heart.' He smiled as he admitted the truth to himself. Wait a minute how did she know it was him ? " De- Princess ,how did you know -"

" Your scent. I don't know why but all my senses are heightened. It's like I'm Daredevil."

" Huh?"

" Blind superhero. Anyways. Addie did you know your grandaddy snuck inside my room and fell asleep."

Cain blushed. " Let me guess you..umm smelled me."

" Yep."

" And you heard Addie cry ."

" Yep."

He walked over to her and knelt beside her. " Maybe your magic heightened her senses. You are magical...I mean you have magic powers." Cain cleared his throat. " Your very good with
her you know. Your going to make a great mother someday."

DG's faced dropped. " I think kids are out of the question now, as well as marriage. I'm a burden now."

" You are not! Stop with the pity party ,Princess. The DG I know would face this and not let it get her down. Plus I'm pretty darn sure there is someone out there who loves you ,blind
or not."

DG snorted. " Well tell him to run for the hills. Addie smells so sweet. I love baby smell.Well not I've just messed my diaper smell but regular baby smell."

Cain laughed. " Yeah , I remember Adora loved sniffing Jeb. I thought she was nuts until she explained it."

" Let me guess you become a sniffer."

" Maybe."

DG laughed. " Oww ,made my head hurt but it was worth it."

Cain went in ultra protective mode. " Do you need me to take Addie? Is it still hurting?"

" I'm fine. I need to laugh through the pain."

He caressed her cheek. " I'm sorry I didn't protect you. I would have took your fall."

" Then I'm glad it was me. It'd hurt me more if it was you going through this. "

" DG , I -"

" Hey guys , was Addie crying ? I didn't hear her." yawned Jeb.

Cain looked at his son and sighed. Jeb looked confused. " What did I do?"

DG laughed. " He was about to say something but I think you interrupted him. Go on ,Cain. What did you want to talk about?"
