This was written for the ficathon over at Tin Ficathon. If I remember correctly, the request was that DG and Cain are stuck together for an extended amount of time, and this is the result. As always comments and crit are most welcome.
DG made a mental note to never, ever, go into Glitch's lab again so long as she lived. And given the situation she found herself in now, that might not be for very long.
She looked over at Cain, who was yelling at Glitch. Glitch just stood there, arms folded over his chest, shaking his head.
"And just how am I going to explain this one? Pardon me, your Highness, but you see, the reason I can't seem to remove my hand from your daughter's ass is because it's stuck there!" Cain said in a very strained voice.
"But that's exactly why you can't move it! I'm sure once the Queen hears how it happened, she'll think it's just as funny as the rest of us!" Glitch told him.
"I don't think it's too damn funny!" Cain yelled.
DG and Cain stood there in the lab, her left hand stuck to his right hand, and his left arm wrapped around her waist with his large left hand planted firmly on DG's bottom.
DG winced as he yelled, then had to bite her bottom lip to keep the laughter she felt coming up from her chest to a minimum. But since she was plastered against Cain's chest, he felt it and looked down at her, trademark frown on his face.
"Don't you start either Princess! You're the one that got us into this mess!"
DG stared up at him open mouthed. "What do you mean I'm the one? You're the one that had to be all macho and try to catch me! If you would've just let me fall on my ass we wouldn't be like this!"
"And if you hadn't been in here messing around with who knows what, you wouldn't have ended up with this goo on you!"
"Hey! That wasn't goo! It was a super fast drying polymer-based adhesive! Or was that a super fast drying elastomer adhesive?" Glitch pondered for a moment, before being jolted out of his train of thought by Cain again.
"I don't care what it was! Can you get us unstuck or not?" Cain asked.
"I may have just the thing! No, wait. That won't work..." Glitch mused.
"What? Why won't what work?" Cain asked.
"Well, because the last time I used that solvent to try and get something apart, it ate through it. The thing...and the glue holding the thing together.” Glitch shrugged. “But if you insist..." he said as he started towards another cabinet.
"Are you nuts!" DG yelled in a panicked voice.
"Well, the only other option you have is to let it wear off." Glitch told them.
"And how long will that take?" Cain asked him.
"Oh, about a week or so. Maybe two depending on the humidity and all."
"Two weeks!" Cain shouted. "We can't stay like this for two weeks!"
"We don't have much choice, do we?" DG asked, looking up at Cain.
Cain only growled in response.
The trip upstairs to DG's room was an exercise in patience and concentration on Cain's part, since he was trying to navigate the trip walking backwards. DG had to steady them once or twice going up the stairs since he was for all intents and purposes pulling her along with him. He tried to ignore the fact that his hand was literally glued to her right ass cheek and that he could feel it move with each step she took through the pants she wore. Her chest was pressed close to his, and he could smell her scent, one that reminded him of warm summer breezes and wildflowers. He let out a deep breath as the door to her room shut behind them.
The trip hadn't been all that wonderful for DG either. She'd felt bad for what had happened, but at the same time, she was mad at Cain for it too. If he weren't so damn chivalrous all the freaking time, things would have been fine, or at least better than they were now. Although as they made their way upstairs, she couldn't help but notice how close they really were, and just how well muscled he actually was. It was all she could do not to move forward and lean her head on his chest and breathe in his scent of steel, leather and musk. She felt him let out a deep breath once the door to her room had closed and she looked up at him.
"I'm sorry Cain. I really didn't mean to do this."
He looked down at her. "I know you didn't kiddo."
"Well, I guess it's a good thing we'd already had dinner." DG said with a smirk. "Sitting at the table with everyone else like this might have been a little awkward."
Cain chuckled at her joke and nodded his head. "Yhea, I suppose it might have been. I'm glad Glitch is the one that’s going to explain this to your parents."
DG started laughing again as she thought of Cain trying to explain the situation, then started thinking of just how they were going to stay like this for at least a week.
"So, how are we going to work this? I mean, how are we going to sleep, eat dinner..." she trailed off as another thought came to her. Just how in the world were they going to go to the bathroom like this!
Cain was still looking down at her when he saw her eyes widen and asked "What? What is it?"
"I was just thinking how we were going to manage the bathroom arrangements, that's all." she told him.
He groaned and went to rub his hand over his face when he realized he had no free hands. As he felt his left hand tug at the seat of DG's pants, a sudden idea hit him.
"DG, take off your pants!" he told her.
The look on DG's face looked like someone had hit her in the face with a wet lake trout.
"Excuse me?" she asked.
"I'll close my eyes, I swear! Just take off your pants!" he told her again.
"What does taking off my pants have to do with this?" she demanded.
"If you take off your pants, my hand will come off your ass! It's only glued to your clothes, not the skin, like our hands are." he told her.
"Ohhh! Right! Okay, turn your head and close your eyes. And no peeking!" she said.
Cain turned his head as far as he could and closed his eyes tight. It didn't matter though because as she reached down to unfasten her pants, she couldn't help but brush against the front of his. He tried to ignore this and concentrate on anything but the front of his pants, when he felt a tug on his hand as she worked the material off her hips and shook them off one leg at a time. He could move his hand out from behind her, and almost turned to look down when he realized he had a half naked princess now stuck to him. Cain kept his eyes closed as he spoke.
"Please tell me you have something close to put on."
"Hold on, I gotta get to the closet." DG said as she pulled him with her to the wardrobe where she pulled out a pair of dark blue pajama bottoms and put them on as best she could one-handed.
"Alright Tin Man, you're safe now. You can open your eyes." she told him.
Cain opened his eyes and looked down at his left hand, which still had her pants hanging from them. "We'll have to see about getting these cut off in the morning." he said.
"But those are my favorite pair!" DG told him, and then sighed. "But I guess you can't go around with my pants hanging off one hand and me off the other."
"No, I don't think so. You hanging off one hand looks funny enough." Cain told her, and then couldn't help but smile at her. She socked him in the upper arm for that one.
Cain stared at the ceiling as he lay on the bed fully clothed except for his hat and his gun, which were lying nearby, and his boots, which were at the foot of the bed. Luckily he hadn't had his duster on at the time of their little accident, or he'd still be wearing it as well. He felt DG stir next to him and before he knew it, she had rolled over towards him, pulling their hands up between them and settling her arm lightly on his chest. As Cain went to move her hand away, he turned his head to look over at her. She looked so peaceful lying there. So quiet and still, it was such a departure from the mischievous young girl he'd come to know, that it struck him that DG wasn't a young girl, she was a young woman, and very beautiful young woman at that. Instead of moving her hand away, he laid his hand over it protectively and closed his eyes, letting himself drift off to sleep.
Over the next week, DG and Cain learned several things about each other, the main thing being that each of their respective daily routines bored the other to death. DG got restless having to sit there while Cain did paperwork in his office in the afternoons, when she'd much rather be outside. Cain got frustrated having to sit in on DG's lessons with Tutor when there were other things that needed to be done.
One afternoon, when DG decided she needed a snack from the kitchen, she practically pulled her arm out of socket when Cain didn't follow her.
"Ow! Cain! What's the big deal!" DG said to him, rubbing her shoulder. “I was just going to get something to eat.”
"It's almost dinnertime. You'll spoil your appetite if you eat now." he told her.
"Agghh! I'm sick of this! This is worse than having you follow me around when we're not stuck together!" she told him.
"I don't know, Princess. Things have been fairly peaceful like this. At least you can't just run off whenever you want to." Cain told her with a smirk. "I was thinking of seeing if Glitch couldn't make up some more of the stuff."
"You have gone totally off your rocker, Cain. You know this, right? You can't tell me you actually enjoy having to go everywhere I go, do everything I do, or have me hanging around you when you're trying to get work done. And don't even get me started on the bathing and bathroom arrangements." she told him as she looked down at him.
Cain looked up at her, all traces of the teasing attitude gone from his blue eyes.
"Having to go to lessons and things like that, no. I have to admit I was bored, mainly because I'd already heard that stuff back when I was in school. But the times like yesterday when we were outside in the garden as the sun was setting, I enjoyed every minute of that DG. And the night it stormed, when we stood inside the balcony doors and watched it rain, and you were leaning up against me, I don't think I've felt what I felt then in a very long time." he told her.
DG could only stand there and stare at him. She remembered the times he was talking about, and while she'd enjoyed those moments as well, she had been afraid to act on the feelings that had been stirring inside her about Cain for some time now.
As their eyes locked, Cain slowly pulled DG down towards him, looking for any signs that would tell him he was pushing this too far. He pulled her closer to him, till their lips were nearly touching.
Pulling back slightly, he said, "DG, if this isn't..."
DG leaned in closer to him and said "Just shut up and kiss me Tin Man."
Cain smiled and pressed his lips to hers, running one hand through her hair as he did so, and moving the other to her waist. It was several moments before he realized the glue had finally worn off, but after this, he didn't figure they'd need glue to keep them together anymore.
