Azkadellia fought through the thickening rain as she edges through the brambles of a forgotten maze. Carefully, she tapped into ancient secrets, ones she never hoped to use, but the dark witch had left them all to easy to find. Drops of blood were sensed easily, the rain making her senses sharper as it cleaned away the rust of the world and gave way for her prey's scent.
Zero, from nearly twenty feet ahead could feel her presence behind him as he struggled frantically to get through the tangled masses of brush that lie thick with thorns.
The princess, sensing his distress, quickened her pace, nearly running straight into him as his arm went up on surrender, his bicep mangled with thorns and ripped flesh. His eyes were wild as she reached down and began to draw breath...
Cain was the first to wake as parchment and frocks whirled beside him. DG was breathing heavily into his side and he worked had not to move as the figure vanished as quickly as it had come. A familiar squeeze on his forearm warned him that DG was awake as well, and she now stared at her nightstand in fear.
She stumbled to get up, only having to sit straight back down as the world whirled before her eyes. She glanced back at Cain with feeble eyes and moved cautiously to the other side of the bed.
"Cain..." She held a tiny envelope at arms length wearily, "They're leaving. Az is in control now..." Cain bolted upright,
"How-"
"Az overheard something, I barely remember, but she said that my father wanted to go back to the Other Side. My mother's to weak to rule, she's most likely gone with him." She paused, scanning the letter before tossing it aside. "That confirms it. I have to find my sister."
Hastily, she glanced out the window before donning a heavy ruby cloak. Cain moved to follow her, his hand patiently on his hip, checking for danger.
The hallway was empty.
Silently, the two descended the stairs and moved to the courtyard doors. Cain managed to throw them open, and a dense fog enveloped the front archway.
Azkadellia stood waiting, her eyes dead, her body weaker. She leaned into her sister for support as she climbed through the doorway, slamming the doors behind her with a flick of her wrist.
"They're gone Az, it's just us now." DG whimpered, but her elder sister shook her head,
"No, they can't have. There's no possible way...I can't do this now, Zero is gone...There's too much to fix. The only way to completely heal everything that's happend would have to be the work of a very powerful wizard." She panted, throwing off her cloak and searching for a place to sit down.
"Someone, like the Mystic Man?" DG asked hopefully. Az opened one eye to stare back at her sister.
"He's dead DG. There's no way unless..." Az breathed.
"Unless what?!" DG screamed, her heart pounding.
"There's an ancient tome, in the library...But it's complicated, we'd need a part of his life." Az exclaimed breathlessly.
"You sucked out his soul! It's gotta be there, there has to be some way!" DG shrieked, pulling her sister from the chair. "It's our last hope." She cried, shaking her sister's arm. "It's our only hope."
