Summary: Somehow, at the end of the day, she made living in the fishbowl of Palace life worth it.
Living in the fishbowl that was Palace life, especially after the Eclipse with the end of the Witch’s reign coming to an abrupt and dramatic end as it had, was aggravating and often headache inducing. He hated it. Or, rather, he hated the setting. No matter how beautiful it was, on its own it was not worth the irritation of the O.Z.’s newspapers blabbing anything remotely scandalous all over the Queendom.
But while the lavish setting held no appeal for him, the company inside the fishbowl was unmatched. More specifically, her. She was all the reason he needed to stay in a place filled with more things than people. With more reporters and chatterbox maids than friends or allies.
She had this way of making even the snake pit of the Royal Court palatable. When the collar of his overly starched dress uniform was choking him in the middle of a glittering ballroom, she would sidle up to him and whisper all sorts of things into his ear that made it a struggle to keep the red out of his cheeks. Then the naughty grin on her lips when their eyes met would shift back in an instant into a polite smile, as she spoke the heavily edited doublespeak the nobles were so fond of to a wisp of an elderly lady, or a big boisterous nobleman with too many medals and not enough real courage.
When prompted he would nod, make the appropriate noises at the appropriate times, on those occasions he was forced into a conversation with some simpering duchess twice his age, or boasting former general who was intent on describing his glory days in vivid detail. His eyes would find hers, and she would come over to rescue him with an excuse about a hiccup in the event’s security that just had to be handled by him personally. Grateful did not even begin to describe his feelings then.
Somehow they always seemed to end up in some secluded hallway, far from the noise and bustle of whatever celebration or event was going on, unable to keep their hands off of each other. Then, if they were lucky and the chaos was set in the Gold Ballroom, they would manage to escape to a room with a lock on the door while still entirely clothed. Other times she would have lost at least her shoes, and his uniform jacket would have been hanging from one of his hands as he pushed her against the wall.
He would comment between kisses on the fact that her parents just had to know why they had disappeared in the middle of some important function that they had been required to attend. She would immediately shoot back that she could not possibly care less; usually punctuated by her fingers nimbly unbuttoning his shirt and peeling it off his shoulders. They both knew it was a pretense, because when his teeth were scraping across her pulse point and his hands were hooking under her thighs to lift her up, he did not care all that much either.
So, at the end of the day, he did not mind the endless rules and ever watchful eyes set above gossipy mouths. Not when he had her. Not even when either her mother or father would raise an eyebrow at them when they reappeared slightly worse for wear, a good half hour after they had slipped out.

Date: 2008-07-23 06:58 pm (UTC)Boys here LOVE John Cena. I have seen at least a dozen kids wearing one of his shirts in Kathmandu. Also two Bautista (one of which was Bautista v. John Cena) and one Mysterio ones. But John Cena is like their idol, which makes me giggle.

Date: 2008-07-24 04:54 pm (UTC)And did you mean I was saying that his brother was chatting me up as a bad thing? Because if so, it was. Or did you mean that he was too busy passing along questions to see that you called Cena a 'fine piece of meat?' Because...rofl.
It was the 'cooker' in the crossword we did today in the class I teach that was the problem. Because I kept trying to fit 'oven' or 'stove' into the space.
