Disclaimer- Nothing concerning Tin Man or Wizard of Oz belongs to me

Zane watched from his perch on the tree limb as a beautiful young woman walked his way. Squinting he took in her appearance. Unblemished skin, which he wondered if it would feel as soft as it looked, luminous mossy green eyes, and the most perfect black hair he had ever seen. The woman was without a doubt one of the prettiest things he’d ever laid eyes on, and eerily familiar. He couldn’t match her face with a name, but something told him her appearance wasn’t natural. There was an air of magic about her that was unmistakable, a glow that only Ozonians would recognize. She also looked completely lost. "Ho, there. What higher being has blessed the fortune upon me to grant me the sight of a fair beauty such as yourself?"

Dg peered up to meet the gaze of a man she knew she should remember from someplace. No one could deny he was handsome and nice on the eyes, but something about him told her there was something she was missing. Instinctively she took a step back. "Who are you?"

Zane smiled his white teeth gleaming. "The better question is, who are you? You can spot your glow for a mile."

Dg took another hasty step back when Zane swung out of the tree and landed in front of her. "People are wary these days, and unless you want to explain why you have the ability to practice magic I’m your new best friend."

Dg eyed him, but his smile had the ability to put her at ease. " Well, my new best friend, do you happen to have a name?"

Zane beamed at her and extended his hand. "Zane, at your service milady. Do you, fair lady, happen to have a name we mere mortals might grace you with?"

Dg slowly reached forward to shake his hand swallowing hard. "Danielle." She lied managing not to flinch.

Zane pretended not to notice her barely concealed lie. Truth be told if he would have called her on her lie, he would have to tell the truth himself. Gods above she would be running far away if she knew the truth of who he was. "And where are you headed?"

Dg gazed beyond his shoulder. "Any where but back there." She jabbed a thumb behind her and even turned slightly to look back. Shuddering she turned back to Zane. "In fact, I really need to get going."

Zane thought fast. He wasn’t letting this beauty escape him, but he couldn’t risk showing his face in any of the towns they would undoubtedly pass through. Even though the local Magician had changed his appearance, people would still notice his looks and say he had an uncanny resemblance. It wouldn’t take them long to guess the truth, but by the looks of it his beauty was avoiding people to. "Want a guide?"

Dg smiled slightly. "Are you much of a people’s person?"

Zane’s smile grew wider. "I can take one of two at a time, but I like to avoid crowds."

Dg looked beyond him again and shrugged. "Mind if we avoid big towns?"

"Nothing could make me happier person."

*~*~*

The fire was blazing when Zane decided now was the time to dig into the reasons his beauty was running, and who exactly she was running from.

"So, Dani, mind telling me why your avoiding towns? And people?"

Dg kept her head down, and her hands extended towards the fire. "Wanna tell me why your avoiding towns? Oh, yeah, and people?"

Zane bit down on his lip. Of course the one woman he became interested in would be smart, and intuitive. "Not particularly."Dg finally raised her head, and for a second Zane could swear her eyes were the purest baby blue. Before he could question they resumed a calm mossy green.

"Perhaps it would be better if we don’t ask questions, and just live with the fact that there are something’s people don’t like to discuss."

Zane shrugged but mentally his mind spun. "Sounds fair enough." A cold wind blew from the west and Zane watched as she moved slightly closer towards him. "Cold?"

Dg shrugged again. "I’m fine."

"Not what I asked sweetheart. Are you cold?" Zane reiterated his earlier question.

She exhaled softly. "Freezing."

Zane took that as the invitation it was and wrapped his arms around her shivering form. He looked down at her. "Could have said something."

"Not my style." She shifted slightly and burrowed herself closer to his enveloping warmth. Snuggling her head under his chin her jaw popped with a yawn. "But if your always this warm I might change my mind and mention it."

Zane shivered with something entirely different then the effects of the cold. He had never felt anything as good as having her in his arm. Risking her wrath he moved his thumb slowly over the pulse in her throat. She was as soft as she looked.

Dg’s head tilted back her eyes widening with surprise. Zane didn’t give her time to protest. He bent his head and brushed his lips against her plush rose petal lips.

"Get some sleep gorgeous. We have a long day ahead of us."
